BRITISH FOOD

Writer Antonella Garzelli
Dear British People,
This week I'd like writing something about the british food, english people have good taste & behave, this might be true of a few english people.

Apparently british food seems very caloric and in the long term it could make nutrion inbalances, but for British people is more acceptable spend money on a car or on a beer at the pub, the food is not essential part of a good life. For centuries England and good food have been considered two different worlds, but things have recently changed and, particulary in London, you can find very good restaurants.
Britain is famed for its pudding with custard to simple fruit salad. many pudding depend on good-quality cream
Cakes and desserts play an important role in the british culinary tradition. Many desserts are fruit based with a sauce made from milk or cream, eggs, flour, sugar and vanilla essence.

As well you known, some most popular dishes are potatos, pudding, fish & chips, grilled fish and meet, eggs cooked in many ways, fantastic choices of desserts.

Potato has a value as a food, for long time potatos were grown only as an intersting plant, However by the end of the 18th century, the potato had become a major corp in continental europe, particularly in Ireland. mThere are lot of varieties, but the major groups are classified according to their appereance : long or round in shape and white, yellow or purple or flesh colour. Apart from the black and white potatos, sometimes called irish potatos, there are black potatos called negresses or pommes de Madagascar, as they take on a deep purple colour after cooking. Red sweet potatos are good with roasts or mashed and used in cakes, soufflè and stuffing.
The british isles do well with evecative, homly dishes, bringing back memories of winter evenings by the sea and among well loved creations are Shepherd's , sautèed potatos made with sausages and bacon.

British people have a passion for Tea; they are a country of Tea drinkers and everybody drinks a cup of tea at breakfast, in the afternoon and at other times of the day, too. Tea was introducing to England in the seventeenth century, it was considered a very fashionable drink by intellectuals and nobels. Queen Catherine made it popular. Today, narly everyone drinks tea in Britain, from the Queen or Prime Minister to the beggar at Station. There are many types of shops and tea rooms in Britain where tea is sold or drunk. The best place is in london, near the Thames , where different kinds of drinks are served. There is a type of tea for every taste and hour.

British people has a tradition of Coffee houses, in 1706 Thomas Twining founded one of the first coffee house in London where tea was also very famous; these establishment were for men only but the most elegant ones had pretty women called ' tea blenders' to entertain customers. However, even though britain is a land where tea rules, the british have steadly incresead the amount of coffee they drink since the 1960s, when they drunk one cup of coffee for evry five cups of tea. You can find a coffee bar in evry area of central London and young Londoners drop into a coffee bar looking for a good coffee on the way to work or just for a quiet break.
